A storage architecture that divides data into individually addressed blocks and reassembles them when requested.
Each block receives a unique identifier and can be stored independently across the underlying storage system. An operating system accesses these blocks directly through a block volume.
Block storage offers fast, consistent performance for databases, virtual machines, transaction-processing systems, and other workloads that frequently modify data. It typically costs more and provides less metadata flexibility than object storage.
