    Article summary

Backblaze Computer Backup can back up TrueCrypt containers.

    Important

Backblaze Computer Backup cannot back up VeraCrypt or TrueCrypt volumes while they are mounted (in use).

To ensure these volumes are backed up, you must close or unmount the container. Once unmounted, the container is treated as a regular file and can be backed up by Backblaze.

The container file must be stored on a local or attached drive that Backblaze has access to in order to be included in backups.

You must allow the timestamp on TrueCrypt containers to change when files are added or removed. This enables Computer Backup to see the changed timestamp on the container and back it up.

    Change Timestamp Settings

    1. Open and sign in to TrueCrypt.
    2. Navigate to TrueCrypt preferences.
    3. Select Preserve modification timestamp of file containers.

    Alternative: BitLocker

If you want to encrypt your data without needing to close or unmount a container for backup, you can use BitLocker.

BitLocker encrypts the entire drive rather than using a container file. When the drive is unlocked, Computer Backup can back up files normally without requiring any additional steps.

For more information, see How to Back Up BitLocker-Encrypted Drives.
