To start, you should have received an email welcoming you to the program and giving you your Backblaze Affiliate Links.
These links are unique to you and all of your Backblaze Affiliate activities. Also please note that affiliate commissions are only earned on Backblaze Personal and Business Backup and are not earned on B2 sales.
Ways to Sell Backblaze
Here are several different ways an Affiliate can sell Backblaze and get commission credit for the sale. Each method shows how to properly link your Affiliate ID to a Backblaze account so you receive credit. Once a Backblaze account is created for a trial or purchase, we cannot add an Affiliate ID to that account after-the-fact.
Also, please note that affiliate sales are only earned on Backblaze Personal and Business Backup and are not earned on B2 sales.
This is the most common way to refer a customer. You can use your Affiliate Link directly or as part of a click-thru link or graphic. For example if your Affiliate ID is af9999, then your Affiliate Link is as follows:
When someone clicks on or types in your Affiliate Link, their browser is "cookied" with your Affiliate ID for 30 days. If that person customer creates an account and purchases Backblaze using that browser during the next 30 days, you receive commission credit. The cookie file name is: bz_billing_partner_idand its contents would be similar to:
similar to: af9999_845972984572
Using Your Affiliate Links
You can place affiliate links in newsletters, on your website and in social media. You will get paid for any new Backblaze accounts created from one of your links. The following are the top performing links:
Use this when talking about online/cloud backup in general.
Use when discussing Windows/PC backup
Use when discussing Mac backup
Use when comparing backup services
Affiliate Link Redirect
By using your Affiliate Link a user will normally "land" on the Backblaze homepage (www.backblaze.com), but there is a way to change the landing page for the user and still get Affiliate credit. It only works for the Backblaze website. If Affiliate af9999 wishes to "land" visitors on the Backblaze "How it Works" page, the Affiliate Link they would use is:
Backblaze sells Gift codes on it's website. You can direct your users to the "Gift" web page and receive commission credit for Gift codes they purchase. Here's the example for Affiliate ID af9999:
The "gift code" generated will "marked" with your Affiliate ID so you receive credit for the sale when the code is purchased. Note: This technique can be used for any secure (.htm) page on the Backblaze website, such a buy.htm.
You can create a link, marked to your Affiliate ID that bypasses the "landing" process and just downloads Backblaze on the users' system. For example, if your Affiliate ID is af9999, the following link will perform a quiet download once clicked.
This will download a DMG/EXE file to that system which is “marked” to your
Affiliate ID. For example, if your Affiliate ID is af9999, the file name of the downloaded file
would be similar on Mac: install_backblaze-af999923a77.DMG
and on Windows:
. Once downloaded, the user clicks on the
file and is prompted to create their
Backblaze account that is then “marked” to your Affiliate ID.
Portable EXE or DMG file
Using the method described above, you can create an EXE or DMG Backblaze Installer file. These files can be copied anywhere, such as a file server, a thumb drive, etc. As a best practice, the Backblaze installer file should be copied to the system on which you will install Backblaze before you start the installation process.
