SignalFX is in the business of helping customers better understand how their businesses are operating across a wide variety of infrastructure, applications, and services. They know how to display complicated information in a manner that’s easy to understand. So, when they tell us that the Backblaze for Business user interface is very clean and easy to navigate, well, we take it as a compliment from people who should know.

SignalFX has been using Backblaze for Business to back up their mostly Macintosh-based offices since 2016. They’re headquartered in Silicon Valley, with additional offices in Minnesota and North Carolina.
Heidi Olson, Office Manager for SignalFX, is responsible for overseeing the computer needs of all of SignalFX’s employees. Heidi has such confidence in her team that she lets them set up their own laptops — with a few guidelines of course. When she commissions a new laptop for an employee, she sends them an invitation from Backblaze for Business, and they handle the rest themselves. Each employee receives a checklist of items they need, along with security best practices they should follow.

“The Groups feature enables me to stay on top of how everyone is handling their backups, both inside and outside of the office. It’s nice to scroll down and see folks are there and currently backed up, no matter where they are.”

Business Groups Dashbaord

Heidi can track their progress with Groups, a feature of Backblaze for Business that enables administrators to manage, monitor, and consolidate billing for any combination of users based on function or location. Heidi was using Backblaze before the Groups feature was added, and she says it’s night-and-day easier now than before Groups were added.

“The Groups feature enables me to stay on top of how everyone is handling their backups, both inside and outside of the office. It’s nice to scroll down and see folks are there and currently backed up, no matter where they are.”

Until recently, SignalFX hadn’t used the Backblaze restore function, Heidi told us. That changed when a laptop was lost and they turned to Backblaze to restore the data.

“I was greatly surprised at how easy it is to restore items we wanted from the website interface,” Heidi told us.

“We got immediate access to the files we needed, then ordered a USB drive from Backblaze with everything we needed to fully restore the computer.”

Heidi was excited about the announcement that Backblaze is supporting JAMF for Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) of client computers. SignalFX already uses JAMF.

“We’re big fans of JAMF,” says Heidi, “and we are looking forward to being able to silently install and manage Backblaze remotely. We are always looking for ways to improve our computer support and data integrity,” Heidi added. “We recently completed SOC 2 compliance and using JAMF in combination with Backblaze will take us further in the direction of being more secure and more efficient.”
