Back Up a Boot Camp Partition

Boot Camp is used on a Mac computer to create a separate partition on the Mac's hard drive. Boot Camp Assistant then installs Windows on the partition. If you use Backblaze Computer Backup on your Mac, you can back up your files that are stored on a Windows partition.
Normally, a Mac computer using Computer Backup can directly access an external hard drive to back up the files on that drive. A Boot Camp volume uses new technology file system (NTFS) formatting to which the Mac operating system cannot write. Since Computer Backup requires write access on the drives that it backs up, Computer Backup cannot be used to directly select a Boot Camp partition for backup. This is true even if you install third-party drivers that allow macOS to write to an NTFS volume.
To use Computer Backup to back up your files that are on a Boot Camp partition, perform one of the following options:
- Move or copy those files to another location that can be backed up from your macOS partition.
- Install the Backup Client on the Windows partition that was created with Boot Camp. You must also purchase another Computer Backup license if you want to use the software on your Windows partition.
