Article summary

Version 9.0 of the Backblaze Computer Backup application has a built-in restore application that lets you download files directly to Macs that run macOS 11 Big Sur and newer, or PCs running Windows 7 and newer.

Note
The Backblaze Computer Backup restore application requires slightly more free space than the size of the restore on your machine. If there is not sufficient space to prepare and download the requested files, the application indicates that there is not enough free space and advises you of next steps. To create sufficient space for the restore, you must free up space in the destination location, select a different destination, or pick a temporary data drive that has more free space than the one that is currently selected. For more information about changing your Temporary Data Drive, click here.

Configure Permissions to Allow the Restore App to Access Data

When a restore is created using the Restore App, the client will create a temporary folder called active to download it. After the restore has finished downloading, it’s moved to the your selected destination folder. Sometimes this action can cause the folder to have restrictive permissions that do not allow for the restore to complete. You must allow Read/Write permissions  for the temporary download folder.
