    Article Summary

The Backblaze mobile app is available for iOS and Android. There is no additional charge to download, install, and use the Backblaze mobile app on as many devices as you want.

You can install the Android app from the Google Play store; install the iOS app from the App Store.

The Backblaze app works only if data is backed up to your Backblaze account from your Mac or Windows computer. You can sign in from one or multiple devices using your standard Backblaze credentials.

You can use your iPhone to access the files that you backed up from Windows computers, and you can use your Android phone to access the files that you backed up from a Mac computer. You can also view external USB hard drive files if they are backed up to Backblaze.

Additionally, you can use the Backblaze mobile app with Backblaze B2 Cloud Storage. Click here for more information.

    Compatible Versions

The mobile app works for all iPhones and iPod Touches that run iOS version 15 or newer. For Android, you must have Android 9 Pie or newer to use the mobile app. The app also works on most 7-inch and 10-inch Android tablets.

    Limitations

Currently, you can download only individual files that are 5 GB or smaller. Since the mobile app is intended to be used on the go and with mobile devices that are potentially on cellular networks, this limit is designed to ensure that you do not accidentally request a file that is larger than your phone can handle.

The mobile app does not back up your iPhone or Android device. However, if you sync your iPhone or Android to your computer and then back up that computer using Backblaze, your data is backed up and available for the Backblaze app to access. You cannot use the mobile app to request a restore at this time. You must use a browser on your device to access your account and create a restore request.

You cannot change your Backblaze account settings, such as a password, using the mobile app. You must use a browser on your device to access your Backblaze account and make your desired changes.

    Security

All communication between the device and the Backblaze data center where your data is stored occurs over an HTTPS (encrypted) connection.

You can decide whether your password is stored on your device in the Backblaze app settings. If your password is saved, then your Backblaze account password is stored encrypted on the device. If your password is not saved, the Backblaze password is not stored, and you must enter it each time you sign in to the app.

If you set the “Remember My Login info” in Backblaze on iOS, you can access the app without having to sign in each time that you open the app. Before using this setting, Backblaze highly recommends that you use Touch/Face ID or a PIN code to limit access to your device. If you activate the Touch/Face ID setting in Backblaze on iOS and you access your iOS device using Touch/Face ID, you can access the mobile app without entering your account or password.

If you set a private encryption key on a computer in your Backblaze account, you must enter that passphrase every time that you log into the app. Your passphrase is never stored on your device.

Files that you download from the Backblaze iOS app are stored in the Backblaze domain space on the iOS device. The Backblaze domain space is protected by iOS.

Like most Android apps, if you download a file using Backblaze, the file is stored in your Downloads folder and can be accessed by other apps. Backblaze recommends that you delete downloaded content if you do not want them to be accessible by other apps or people.
