This article helps you resolve the MacOS error The folder ... can't be opened because you don't have permission to see its contents
that you may see when you view the contents of a USB restore drive.
Re-enable MacOS Permissions
- Right-click the folder.
- Select Get Info from the menu.
- When the info panel appears, expand the Sharing & Permissions section.
In the table under Sharing & Permissions, your current account is listed at the top of the Names column with "(Me)" next to it. - Click the corresponding dropdown selector in the Privileges column, and select Read & Write.
Enable restricted permissions
If enabling Read & Write privileges in the previous step does not fully resolve the issue, enable and apply the following restricted options.
- In the lower-right corner of the Info panel, click the padlock to enable editing of restricted settings.
- Enter your MacOS account password.
- Click the gear to reveal additional options.
- Click Apply to enclosed items or, depending on your MacOS version, Make acctname (Me) the Owner.
