Set a Temporary Data Drive (Restore App)

When you restore files using the Computer Backup Restore App, the app downloads files in smaller parts to a temporary folder. After enough segments are downloaded, the app assembles them into complete files and moves those files to your restore destination.
This setting is separate from the Temporary Data Drive setting in the Backblaze Backup Client, which is used only for uploads.
By default, the Computer Backup Restore App uses the system boot drive as the temporary data location:
macOS:
~/Library/Application Support/BackblazeRestore/activeWindows:
C:\ProgramData\Backblaze\bzdata\bzrestore\active
If your boot drive does not have enough free space, you might see an error message:
Please clear additional space or select a new destination.
Drive “Macintosh HD” needs XXX GB additional space.
This means the temporary folder on the boot drive does not have enough capacity to assemble the restore files.
Set a Temporary Data Drive
Starting with Backblaze version 9.2.2, the Computer Backup Restore App typically manages temporary data automatically. If you still receive a space-related error, your system drive may be full. You can change the temporary data location to another drive with sufficient free space.
macOS
Open the Restore App.
In the menu bar, select Backblaze Restore > Settings.
Under Folders, change Temp Download from Default to Custom.
Select a new location for the temporary data drive, then click Choose Folder.
Close the Settings panel.
Windows
Open the Restore App.
Select the Settings icon in the upper-right corner.
Under Restore Files Destination, select the folder icon next to the path.
Choose a new location for the temporary data drive, then click OK.
Close the Settings panel.
To resume the restore, click View Restore Progress > Resume.
After the restore is complete, temporary files are deleted automatically, and your drive space returns to normal.
