Unfortunately, with some exceptions, the computer itself was gone.<\/p>\n<p>Today, Backblaze announces &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.backblaze.com\/cloud-backup\/features\/find-my-computer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Locate My Computer<\/strong><\/a>&#8220;\u2014a new feature of the Backblaze online <a href=\"https:\/\/www.backblaze.com\/cloud-storage\/solutions\/backup-and-archive\">backup service <\/a>that shows you a map of your computer&#8217;s location.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.backblaze.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/blog-locate-pc-illustration.jpg\" alt=\"Locate My Computer illustration\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We have heard many painful stories, such as that of the <a href=\"\/blog\/cure-for-cancer-stolen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">cure for cancer being stolen<\/a>; and some amazing stories such as Mat Miller recovering his laptop when he noticed the <a href=\"\/blog\/digital-007-outwitting-the-thief\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">thief backed up his college paper<\/a> to Backblaze or <a href=\"\/blog\/18-year-old-catches-thief-using-backblaze\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mark Bao catching the thief<\/a> that stole his laptop by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.backblaze.com\/b2\/docs\/downloading.html\">downloading<\/a> a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=8c8W1NDYf38\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">video the thief took of himself<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Since launching the company, we have had a steady stream of people contacting our support team saying, &#8220;My computer was stolen\u2014is there anything you can do to help?&#8221; With the exception of rare cases, unfortunately, there was little that we could.<\/p>\n<p>Today, all that changes.<\/p>\n<p>With our new Locate My Computer feature, Backblaze enables customers to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Accurately locate their computer on a map<\/li>\n<li>Get the ISP their computer is accessing<\/li>\n<li>See the IP address it&#8217;s using<\/li>\n<li>And easily view new files being backed up<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Locate My Computer is available immediately and is free to all Backblaze customers. Mapping is enabled for new users; users with existing accounts can turn on mapping. To turn mapping on or off, sign-in and visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/secure.backblaze.com\/user_signin.htm?hopto=locate_my_computer.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Locate My Computer<\/a> page.
