Or sometimes for Valleywag.<\/p>\n<p>But the last couple of days there has been some drama in the backup space.<\/p>\n<p>About a month ago, Backify launched an online <a href=\"https:\/\/www.backblaze.com\/cloud-storage\/solutions\/backup-and-archive\">backup service<\/a> claiming to offer 512GB for free. That surprised me and others and I was curious as to how they could offer that. Well, in the last two days the answer came back as &#8220;they couldn&#8217;t.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As it turns out, Backify was reselling another service called LiveDrive. That company sent an email to all Backify customers claiming Backify was being fraudulent. Backify sent an email to their customers saying LiveDrive&#8217;s service was broken. Unclear what actually happened, but bad for customers backing up their data regardless.<\/p>\n<p>Lifehacker includes both emails here: &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/lifehacker.com\/5860098\/you-should-probably-stop-using-backify\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">You Should Probably Stop Using Backify<\/a>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This morning, the Backify homepage changed to say: \u201cBackify is no longer in service.\u201d The company suggests users try Backblaze for unlimited storage for data backups.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/backify-shut-down.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-KH65Dv3O\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-548\" title=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.backblaze.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/backify-shut-down-e1321660997152.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"410\" height=\"95\" srcset=\"https:\/\/backblazeprod.wpenginepowered.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/backify-shut-down-e1321660997152.jpg 410w, https:\/\/backblazeprod.wpenginepowered.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/backify-shut-down-e1321660997152-300x70.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 410px) 100vw, 410px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We very much appreciate the recommendation and are happy to welcome all Backify customers who wish to protect their data with online backup.
