We&#8217;d never heard of him or his newsletter but we said, &#8220;Great!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Shortly thereafter he wrote &#8220;Backblaze: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.backblaze.com\/cloud-backup\/personal\/windows-online-backup\">Backup Software<\/a> You\u2019ll Actually Use&#8221; and almost 10,000 people showed up to try the service!<\/p>\n<p>Amit was not only a fan and a great boost for us, he&#8217;s also just a great guy. Unfortunately, two weeks ago <a href=\"http:\/\/tumblr.amitgupta.com\/day\/2011\/10\/06\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Amit was diagnosed with acute leukemia<\/a> and is now in for a long slog of chemo and more.<\/p>\n<p>He&#8217;s asking for South Asians to do a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marrow.org\/Join\/Join_Now\/Join_Now.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">free bone marrow check by mail<\/a>. (Just run a cotton swab on your cheek.)<\/p>\n<p>Apparently, <a href=\"http:\/\/boingboing.net\/2011\/09\/29\/send-a-free-postagram-to-amit-gupta.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Amit also likes &#8220;colorful photos, pizza, crafty projects, and macaroni,&#8221;<\/a> and, of course, photos.
