Apple Silicon and macOS security took care of that shift. But ask around, and you&#8217;ll find the tools protecting those machines usually weren&#8217;t built for them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That&#8217;s not a knock on any one vendor. It&#8217;s structural. Backup software grew up as a Windows category. Mac support got added later, mostly because customers demanded it, not because anyone designed for macOS from day one. And &#8220;supports Mac&#8221; on a spec sheet tells you almost nothing about whether a tool actually holds up on a Mac fleet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here&#8217;s what that gap costs, in actual numbers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>43% of IT teams don&#8217;t back up all their endpoints<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>58% of organizations had a data loss or security incident in the last year<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>31% cite lack of time and resources as their top challenge protecting endpoints<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Only 9% say restoring from backup is &#8220;very easy&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Put those together and a pattern shows up: the data most worth protecting\u2014the stuff living on laptops that never touch a shared drive\u2014is also the data most likely to fall through the cracks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why does this keep happening on Mac fleets specifically? A few reasons, and they compound:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ported clients, often built on Java or Electron, don&#8217;t play well with macOS scheduling. They compete for resources with whatever the user has open, and get disabled.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Every macOS release changes something under the hood. A tool that isn&#8217;t tracking Apple&#8217;s developer releases closely takes time to catch up, and catching up can mean missed files or silent failures.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mac-first IT teams live in Jamf, Kandji, Addigy, and Intune. A backup tool that needs manual steps to deploy through those platforms wasn&#8217;t built for how those teams actually work.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pricing models matter too. When backup is metered by the gigabyte, the instinct is to exclude the largest files, which are usually the hardest ones to recreate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">None of this shows up on a feature comparison sheet.
